How to keep your surveillance system running smoothly while you are away this summer

You may be taking some annual leave this summer to relax and enjoy the sun. Before you go away, there are few things that need to be checked to ensure that your surveillance systems run smoothly.

1. Check for existing faults

Before you leave for your holidays, check the state of your system and make sure that existing faults are fixed. Mirasys VMS includes a system diagnostic (Watchdog) that inspects the servers and other installed devices, the operating system, the CPU and the installed drivers.

2. Set the watchdog tool to send notification emails

In severe situations such as a system malfunction or hard drive failure, the watchdog can do a number of pre-set tasks, e.g. restart the affected computer or send e-mail messages containing information about the malfunction.

3. Set automatic archive and back up

Mirasys VMS gives you the option to save videos, audio and text data automatically to a local or network drive on a daily or weekly basis for complete peace of mind while you are away. You can back up both system settings and recorder settings. System settings contain data about the recorders, profiles, and user accounts. Recorder settings contain data about the devices connected to the recorders and their parameters. Read more about backing up settings

4. Consider using remote alarm monitoring services

Where property protection is required 24 hours a day, seven days a week, remotely monitored CCTV systems can provide an economic solution.  Activation signals are sent to a monitoring centre, where they are filtered for false activations that are neither crime related or caused by genuine intrusions or fires. In the event of a confirmed signal the police or other relevant emergency services will be contacted on your behalf.  As an open platform, Mirasys VMS integrates with a wide range of Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) software, such as Immix and Sentinel.

5. Keep relevant people informed

If you are thinking of using a remote monitoring centre to take charge of your security, then make sure you  inform them when the building will be almost empty or without employees.  Also send up-to-date details of key holders or other relevant employees.
