In this blog we will look at what to do if your server has been making a dreaded bleeping noise and you want to silence it!
If this is happening you might have a failed disk that will need to be replaced. Normally these disks can be hot-swapped but please consult the manual for more information on this. If you have just replaced a drive then it will automatically rebuild and add the new drive, just go to the Dashboard and check out the background operations.
The LSI Raid card controls the RAID and it is controlled in Windows by the MegaRAID Manager. You can normally find a icon on the desktop for this or it will be in the start menu.
When you load this you will be presented with a screen that will scan the computer and show you the status of all connect drives, as you can see below the drive is optimal. To view more information about the drive or to manage the drives you will need to enter them. You can do this by double clicking on the drive.
The log in details are the same as the Windows log in details.
Once logged in you can disable any alarms temporarily by clicking the Silence Alarms button. You can also see any background tasks that are taking place such as disk rebuilds and patrols.
If you click on the Physical tab on the left you can see the current state of all the currently connected drives. If one needs to be replaced but you are unsure which one then you can right click on it and Start Locating Drive. If your machine is able to then this will cause a LED on the drive to start to flash or become a solid light.
Using the Logical tab will let you manage your drives; if you wish to create a new drive or delete an old drive you can do it from here. If you have just replaced a drive then it will automatically rebuild and add the new drive, just go to the Dashboard and check out the background operations.
